Good morning

I'm a new member and I'm taking up the suggestion that I put a few words to paper on my interest in the Anglo-Boer War.

As it happens, I returned a few days ago from a three week tour of Australian battlefield sites, the highlight for me being a visit to Leeuwkop/Bakenkop, a ridge between Lindley and Bethlehem in Free State, where on 3 july 1900 Captain AEM Norton and a troop of South Australians retook a number of guns which had fallen into Boer hands. Norton, my grandfather, was subsequently awarded the DSO for this action.

He was invalided home after Vredefort, fought three weeks later to the day, when he narrowly escaped with his life.

I am writing a unit history of the 4th South Australian Imperial Bushmen (4SAIB), a project on which i'm well advanced but will take another year or so to wrap up. I would very much appreciate any leads on primary sources which may not normally be in the public domain.

Any help gratefully received and acknowledged!

Tony
