My uncle Harry a native Lancastrian b 1881 is said to have enlisted in the Boer war. [And WW1] He sent home a sketch of the blockhouse at Magersfontein and the family has inherited two images of him. All are attached. He migrated to Sydney Australia abt 1919/1920. I can't find him. Does anybody know aught of him?

Good morning,
There is a 7492 Pte H Turner Number 2 Volunteer Coy 1st Loyal North Lancashire Regt, shown in WO100/192 page 558, could be him I suppose, there are also several more Turner's in that Regt, but, not with that initial.
I noted the use of the word "Vol" in the stones in front of the blockhouse in your photo too.
Regards Frank

Thanks for that Frank. As a beginner , how do I take it further ie how do I go to WO100/192 page 558 to see if he is the one? Also his WW1 service number was 8778 if I have the right person, of rank RSM.

Hi Tom,
WO100 is just the QSA roll so just by looking at it, you are unlikely to be able to say if he is the one.
If your man served in the Great War, then his original service papers are not going to be found in WO96/97, if they have survived they will be in WO363/364.
All of these original documents are at the TNA Kew, copies are also available on line at Ancestry, or if you are able you can go to Kew and view any surviving papers there.
WO96/97 is available on line at Find my Past, but as I said, if your man served again, his papers are unlikely to be present.
Regards Frank
