I have recently started to collect medals.
I have a QSA medal awarded to PTE 3382 J DUNN , 2nd East Surrey Regiment.
The medal has bars for Relief of Ladysmith and Tugela Heights.
I have searched the lists on this site and cannot find him.
Can anyone advise how I can find information on him please.

Welcome Alan.....

Just did a quick look in Palmer's Casualty Roll and Dunn is not listed.....

He may have had more bars.....

Normally with only those two bars I would have thought that he may have been a casualty....

Good evening,
He appears to be in WO100/185 page 24 as 3282 Pte J Dunn, the initial G has been crossed out and a J added, his number has also been altered from 3252 to 3282, in addition, a note in the remarks column "Invalided To England" this expains the two clasps.
Regards Frank

Hello Mike,
Thanks for your response.
Can you tell me whether the search options within this website are exhaustive?
ie if he cannot be found on the list, does it mean that a person with that name and service number was not involved in the war?

Thanks Frank,
Your information is very helpful.
This just shows me how tricky it can be to find someone if the information on the medal is slightly incorrect.

Hello Alan

You should check www.findmypast.co.uk for service papers, if they aren't there then check on www.ancestry.co.uk in the so called WW1 pension and service papers.
