Hi,
As a South African I have deep roots on both sides of the war. My one great-grandfather fought on the British side, presumably a colonial from Kimberley (Henry John Martin); while my other great-grandfather was a Boer (Willem Postma). Another great-grandfather (John West) was Irish but fought on the Boer side. My dad (Earl Martin) died recently and I found the attached photo among his things. I would really appreciate any information that could shed light on the picture. (Who were these people?). I have no idea where it was taken, but I can offer some guesses: it's an original picture, so probably handed down in the family; seems to be colonials, and could have been taken in the Mafeking area, because that's where my family coms from. Also, it seems to date from the Boer War era. But then again, it may be a random photograph.

It is good that you have so many links back to the Boer War.

I have looked at the picture and, while my knowledge of uniforms is poor, I think it may be from a later period.

Can anyone else comment on this?

I have a very funny feeling that this photo may be WW1 or between the wars.....

Could be a militia summer encampment.....
