One of my ancestors, Thomas York of County Clare Ireland, noted on his Canadian WW1 Attestation Papers that he had served "2 years in Cape Garrison Artillery, Boer War". How do I find out more about this gentleman's life during this time? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello Nuala,

In all the years I spent indexing and working through the Cape Police attestation papers in the Cape Archives I never came across attestation papers or anything of substance with regards the CGA.

However, I did attend a few medal meetings in the officers mess at the CGA HQ in the Castle in Cape Town and met the Curator of the Museum. A chap by the name of Natie Greef. He will more than likely be of help to you. His email address is/was:

[email protected]

and the email adress for the Castle incase is/was:

[email protected] or [email protected] have given all these email addresses as it's been a few years since I have contacted them and things might have changed.

Regards
