Good evening Dave,
I was going to say welcome to this forum, but, I see that you have been here for some time now, all three of these men have left footprints and you should really go to Kew to get the full picture and it is much the same process for all three, so I'll talk about the first man Captain Ramsey here.
Ramsey was born on the 19th of May 1879, he has entries in RG12 and RG14 etc he joined the 75th Coy, now these were the famous Sharpshooters, all hand picked, Londoner's, big black moustaches, many were members of the NRA, all were good, he is shown in WO100/127 pages 257 and 262 in respect of his Boer War service and QSA with clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, Rhodesia and South Africa 1901, also, take a look in WO128 for his papers.
He served in the Great War as a Corporal with the 3rd C of L Yeomanry until he was commissioned on the 23rd of July 1916 into the Dorset Yeomanry, he served out in Egypt and Gallipoli and his file is in WO374/56140, he later claimed his medals for his service in the Great War.
He married Elizabeth Glen at All Saints church in Hatcham, London on the 1st of November 1919 and lived a very long and one hopes a good, happy life, he died in 1971.

Just the same for Towse and Hodson the entries are all there, as and when you go to Kew, if you feel uncomfortable and feel the need to talk about them, I would speak to the head of military documents, William Spencer and I know he will point you in the right direction.

So you see where you can take these men if you really want to, anyway Dave, I wish you good luck.
Go to Kew, don't feel uneasy about it, a bloody monkey can do it, and just talk to people.
Kind regards Frank

I would think a very happy day for Captain Ramsey after his recent active service.

Dave,

If it hasn't been recommended already, you'll want to pick up a copy of Rhodesia & After, Being the Story of the 17th and 18th Battalions of IY by Sharrad H. Gilbert. Gilbert was a trooper in 65th Company, 17th Imperial Yeomanry. He recorded his impressions of the war and published them in 1901. The book is available for free electronically at Google books, and also as a reasonably priced paperback reprint from the Naval & Military Press.

Dear Frank,

Yes I became a member quite some time ago and then didn't return due to coursework and exams which were a delight haha. It is so nice to hear that all played a good role in the war! I am going to go to Kew, I am just having difficulty with work at the moment (I'm a Carer) as they are screwing me over. Thus money to get there is a bit of an issue at the moment. I cannot thank you enough for doing this! I am not a lazy person at all, I have just been bombarded with family issues recently. This is so kind of you! I shall indeed keep William Spencer's name in my mind! Do you have a personal email address that I could have please? To keep in contact if you wouldn't mind?

Thank you so much,

Dave Broome

Dear Nick,

Yes thank you my dad gave me this book when I did a piece of coursework on the Boer War. It was a fascinating book! However I found (as an overview) Thomas Packenham's book and Bill Nasson's book by far the more helpful. Thank you for getting back to me.

All the best,

Dave Broome
