Hi:
Soon I will have a new addition to my collection in the form of a QSA named to 872 Sgt J.E. Swan Johannesburg M.R.
Can anyone confirm the medal bar entitlements for my man, or indicate where I can locate this information?
Thanks for any assistance.
Cheers,
John S

John
Had a quick look in my JMR roll; no J.E.Swan at all and all the men's numbers were four digits. Is medal impressed or engraved?

Welcome to the Forum John.....

Glad to see that you finally go here......

Here is Swan on the Nominal Roll ( about 1/2 way down) Look at first page of letter "S" and it is J.C. Swan...

Hello John and welcome to the forum!

I found Sgt John E Swan on the JMR roll, WO100253 p95, for the clasps OFS and Tr.

A note says he also served as 33835 in the 2nd Scottish Horse.

I will go and check that roll.

Best wishes
David

Good evening,
872 Sergt John Swan is shown on WO100/253 page 95 as being entitled to a medal and two clasps, Orange Free State and Transvaal, he also served in the Scottish Horse, his number is shown in the remarks column.
You will also find his WO127 entries here on this site under unit information,
any surviving attestation papers will be found in WO126, the Johannesburg Mounted Rifles in WO126/67-73 and the Scottish Horse in WO126/122-126 at the TNA Kew.
Welcome to this forum, regards Frank
