John,

The Supplementary Roll for Scottish Horse (WO100/269p159) gives entitlement to SA01 and SA02. He was discharged from the Scottish Horse on 4 June 1902 in Johannesburg.

A note records that he served for 6.5 months in the JMR.

The QSA Roll for the 2/SH (WO100/269p90) has him crossed through with a note saying the medal was issued by the JMR.

Both these roll give his JMR numbers as 872 and 30639.

So his full entitlement is OFR Tr SA01 SA02. What is on the medal, just the first two?

Kind regards
David

Many Many Thanks for your very prompt replies to my question on bar entitlements! Although I don`t have the medal in hand yet, I know know what to expect.
I wonder what might have caused him to go from the Johannesburg M.R. to the 2nd Scottish Horse? Any idea when he joined the JMR, then switched to the 2SH?
I wonder if my man might have had any further medal entitlements- perhaps service in WWI?
Again, Thanks!!

WO127 suggests he was discharged from the Johannesburg Mounted Rifles on the 26th of August 1901, so just go back six and a half months, his attestation paper will be more exact, moreover, WO127 also suggests that he served twice in the Scottish Horse, joining at Green Point on the 31st of August 1901 and again on the 1st of March 1902 at Johannesburg, being discharged on the 4th of June 1902
