Hi

I have been doing some family research on General Kelly Kenny who was my gt grandfathers's first cousin and on family who served in the Boer War (Edward Gallery my grand uncle, the generals cousin) and Patrick Michael Kelly (Life Guards) a distant cousin of the Generals and of mine. As a result I have been reading some wikipedia entries and wonder if anyone could help me check some facts or point me to the right information out of much available.

In the following wikipedia article on Patrick Michael Kelly politician it states that he was appointed by the General to the Life guards. I did not think the General had command of the Life guards and would have thought he could possibly make a recommendation but not an appointment. Can someone confirm this for me or tell me where to check ? ~I have searched the London Gazzette

thanks

Margaret,

You are right that the general would not have appointed people to the Life Guards although he may have had influence in their appointment there. Do you think the article is alluding to some form of nepotism?

No I was not suspecting nepotism I just thought that the wikipedia entry was possibly factually inaccurate and was checking. There are a number of inaccurate articles about the General which are then widely quoted (Clare Champion article 1906 visit of prince of wales to Doolough lodge)
