Hi All
Wendel Hough, again.
I have already added a post on the South African constabulary related to my maternal ancestor.
However this request is about information on my Paternal Ancestry, namely John, Alfred and Charles SWARTZ.
My great grandfather Charles SWARTZ lived in the Beaufort West, De Aar, Richmond, Murraysburg area of the Eastern Cape during the Boer War, and although being born Afrikaans, was raised by his Stepfather John Brickley the local Constable of both Beaufort West and Murraysburg (where he retired and passed away).
All three of John Brickley’s stepsons fought for the British during the Anglo Boer War.
I am trying to get more information on my family especially John, Alfred (Albert) and Charles SWARTZ in the Anglo Boer War
The only reference I have to the family is this information below, of which I am desperately trying to find copies of and more information:
These are extracts from National Archives Ref WO 126/167 for the Boer War service records for selected names starting with S for the WESTERN PROVINCE MOUNTED RIFLES. There were a variety of standard forms and also many sections of the forms were not completed. As a result the details included vary.

John SWARTZ
Age: 17,
Previous service: DMT
Step father: John Brickley, Devenish St, Beaufort West
Enlisted: Malmesbury 1 Dec 1901
Reg. no. 1237
I am very interested to find out about the Western Province Mounted Rifles.
What they did in the Anglo Boer war.
I would like to get copies of the service records of John, Alfred and Charles SWARTZ during the war.
I am hopeful that someone will have some information.
Kind Regards
Wendel Hough
