Hi to everyone,

I have just joined Anglo Boer War and I am interested in finding out any information about my Grandfather. His name was Richard Crowley born c.1876. I know that he was in the Connaught Rangers as it is given as occupation on his daughters's birth certificate.

On ancestry I have found information on the Medal Rolls for a Pte. R. Crowley 2982
1st. Connaught Rangers, who was awarded QSA medal with State clasps for Cape Colony -Orange Free State - Transvaal and South Africa with Battle clasps for Relief of Landysmith and Tugella Heights. I now need to know how to establish whether this information relates to my Grandfather Richard or not? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.
Sandra

Hello Sandra,
Surviving Service Papers for this period are in WO96,WO97, WO363 and WO364 at the National Archives Kew, almost all are available on line at FMP and ancestry, not a common name and if he was born in Cork, I would suggest you first have a look on line as there are a couple that are likely to be him.

Hello Frank,

Thank you for the information. My Grandfather was actually born in St.Giles London
but his father was originally from Cork. I will have to get to Kew sometime to see what I can discover.

Regards
Sandra
