I am researching a Memeorial near Simondium in Western Cape - it is called the Bleskop Memorial but relates to 10 soldiers of the valley killed in WW1.
The person believed to be responsible for the Memorial is N B Gray, it is beleived he served with A&SH (4th. Bn.) and they took part in theses actions:
"In March 1902, after Lord Methuen's reverse, they were hurriedly railed to Klerksdorp, and operated under General Walter Kitchener, and were also in the big drives of General Ian Hamilton, to the Vryburg line and back, getting into Klerksdorp about ten days before peace was declared."
Could it be that the one action (he perhaps) took part in resulted in the naming of the memorial that honours his friends from Simondium and surrounding are who fell in the Great War????
