The colours are indeed unusual. Perhaps they signify Namaqualand - lots of brown and only a little green! Alternatively, they may represent colours of the copper ore at O'okiep.

Regards
Brett

You may well be right, the strange green is rather close to the colour of the ore. It could well represent a seam of copper in the rock!

It is a topic that facinates me, who sits down and designs the ribbon, everyone discusses the medals but little said about the ribbons. I believe royalty has on a few occasions had a say but possibly it is just an urban legend?

Good day
I am busy doing research of my great grandfather J Burrows who resided in O'Kiep and was apparently a Luitenant of O'Kiep Townguard. Was he the only Burrows that was in the Anglo Boer War at the time. Why I am asking is that I found a grave in Okiep who states the name James Burrows from Feock Cornwall which died in Port Nolloth. Have you got any history on either Joseph or James Burrows for me so I can research more.
Thanking you in advance.
Louise Roelofse (nee Burrows)
