Greetings,
Allow me to introduce myself - my name is Nick McCarthy. I am currently researching on behalf of the Old Stamfordians (alumni of Stamford School, Lincolnshire) the names of those who fought and died in the Boer War.
The following is a brief overview of the names I am looking into, taken from information within our Stamfordian Magazine

"Unveiling of a War Tablet

The company then adjourned to the schoolroom, where the above tablet was unveiled.
Dr Barnard said that nearly twenty old boys took part in the South African war – either in the regular army, the Volunteers or the Yeomanry – and out of that number they had to lament the death of two, in memory of whom that tablet had been erected.
The Mayoress (Miss Knott) then unveiled the tablet, which bears the inscription: ‘ In memory of Cecil Herbert Warren, of the 28th Company Imperial Yeomanry, who died at Johannesburg of wounds, 11th Oct., 1900, aged 26; at school 1886-1892. Also of Frank Ernest Lowless, of the 10th Company Imperial Yeomanry, who died of fever at Naauwpoort, 30th December, 1901, aged 21 years; at school 1894-1896. Erected by Stamford masters and boys."

Hi Nick, drop me an email to establish contact and I will supply you with details on any military personnel who died during the Boer War. My database far exceeds any others that I have come across and includes photos of graves and memorials.
Kind regards
Brian

Dear Nick,

As I wrote on the post about Trooper Lawless this is a very interesting project.

Some of these names ring a bell and there are some fascinating stories to be uncovered. For example:

Frank Davis was one of the original 'fighting five hundred' of the Imperial Light Horse and subsequently served with the Bushveldt Carbineers, a unit made notorious following the executions of two of its officers, Harry 'Breaker' Morant and Peter Handcock for shooting Boer prisoners.

John Perkins was the officer commanding the Indian details in the Boer War and awarded the Distinguished Service Order. He died during the First World War.

Good luck with your researches.

Best wishes,

Justin

Hi Nick
I don't know if you are still working on your project, but I thought that I ought to mention that I have the British War Medal of Captain Francis Madensfield Davis.
