I have in my possession a Fenian Raid Medal 1866 with the name "cl. sgt r orr 7th LLI

Is Cl sgt a common rank its just I have never heard it before???

I'm no expert but I think it's an abbreviation for 'Colour Sergeant'. Not a common rank so far as I know, but I'm sure you'll get a more informed opinion when other members see your post.

Just found the medal roll on the Canadian Archives. It confirms he was Color Sergeant of the 7th London Battalion

The rank of Colour Sergeant was initially introduced by the Army during the Napoleonic wars where it was a reward for long service by sergeants. They took their name from their role of protecting the ensign or regimental colours.
