I have a QSA medal named to 31254 Pte H E MERVYN CCCC. He does show on the nominal roll WO 127 of the unit. The medal has no clasps. Wouldn't he be entitled to the Cape Colony clasp for his CCCC service? Thanks.

Hi There,

CCCC = Cape Colony Cyclist Corps

31254 Pte Harry.E. Mervyn is entitled to the QSA with the Cape Colony clasp and SA 1901 clasp.

Entitlement to the CC clasp is confirmed on Roll WO100/239 page 29 and the SA1901 clasp is confirmed on page 98.

Gentlemen,
The Cape Colony Cyclist Corps was actually a Class D1 SAMIF unit and not a Cape Volunteer unit as you might expect, some papers for men in this unit have survied and are in WO126/19-22.
They were raised in Capetown on the 27th of December 1900 and disbanded on the 30th of June 1902 in Middleburg, rather interestingly, when raised, their term of service was just six weeks for those original members!
A very good, but sadly, underated organisation, remembered on here today.
