Hello to all

I have attached a photograph of my great grandfathers brother George Wappett who it is stated died in the Boar War
I have not been able to find any records to confirm

Is the uniform that of the Imperial Yeomanry?

Thanks for any assistance

Alan

Wanderer48,

That's a great picture.

George Wappett is not listed on the casualty roll.

There is a man called J Wappett who served in the 13th Hussars.

The Ancestry index has no one of the name G Wappett.

Are you sure your ancestor did serve in the Boer War?

Kind regards
David

Thanks for your response

I had come across the other Wappett which is unrelated

It is a good question you ask

The granddaughter of George Wappetts brother is still alive(in her 90s)and she is adamant that he served and indeed died in the Boer War

He lived in the Kirkby Stephen area(now Cumbria)and I was trying to tie him in through his uniform

There is something else that might or might not be of interest On the Penrith Boer War Memorial there is named a George Watt wounded 30th May 1900 died 20th August 1900 he was a private in the Imperial Yeomanry
I have been trying to find out also details of whom that individual was perhaps someone could assist

regards

Alan

George Watt, was a 22 year old groom from Morland Penrith, who joined the IY on the 24th of January 1900, with service in South Africa from the 11th of February, he was wounded at Douglas on the 30th of May and died in Kimberley on the 22nd of August 1900.
Yet another poor lamb to the slaughterhouse! :(
