His obituary appeared in the Illustrated London News, November 30, 1912:

Although his QSA does not have the best clasp combination for an ILH medal, it would still be a very desirable one, since it was awarded to a prominent "Uitlander". I wonder if it has ever appeared on the medal market?

I haven't seen this on the market so far.

Interestingly, he has a single page of the roll to himself which is not uncommon at the end of the unit rolls. The roll is not dated but is signed by Colonel Edwards. The unit is given as 'Attached Imperial Light Horse'. A further note explains he served from October 1899 to April 1901.

Whilst I like the monocle, he has not gone for the full on "pushful Joe" look, all he needs is the trademark orchid!

I think that the important thing to remember here, is that he is an officer, a commissioned officer, in the finest of the SAMIF, it does not really matter about his clasps!
I remember meeting a ILH officer in about 1978 or 79, whilst only a small boy, I was still rather surprised to see what he was wearing on his tunic and I've never forgotten what I saw either, the crossed Royal Standard and Union flag, of a foreign power!
