Dear Michael.

In regards to your photograph. The building is indeed O'Neil's Cottage which lies in the saddle between Inkwelo and Majuba Mountains. Your ancestor would have visited the site of the battle and subsequent site of the Peace negotiations, and would have photographed the house. This excursion was something of a must-do when in Northern Natal. The elderly man on his horse is none other than Richard Charles O'Neil, the owner and occupier of the farm 'Stonewall' and the cottage. I have another photograph of Richard this time posing in front of the stone garden wall that you can see in this image.
