My grandfather Arthur Myhill Brewer was in the SADefence Force and later linked with the provst generals office. I have his sword he used (for pegging) and part of his uniform, I have photos of him wearing it. It has GR cut out on the hand guard, and on one side of the blade King Alfreds Guard, a GR And crown and a six pointed star On the other side Hazel & Co, 65, East Road, City Road, EC. I am curious as to why he would have it and how old it might ve. He was born in port eelizabeth

Good Afternoon.....

The sword that you describe sounds like it is a 1897 Pattern Sword of the King George V period. The six pointed star is the proof mark. The makers name is Hazel & Co.
