Can anyone help in deciphering this photo for me?..........It has been found by a family member in a box of old photo's.
We think it may be to do with the 2nd Boer war.

Can anyone identify what the initials at the top of the small picture in the center mean?......What is ZAR?

The initials can be seen around the photo....D C L I.....which I have translated as Duke of Cornwal Light Infantry.Would I be right?

And welcome to the forum.
ZAR means South African Republic and you are correct with the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry.

Aha!...South African Republic!....ok, Does this mean that this photo / memorial pic is to do with the Boer War?......

My cousin and I are not sure of who is in the photo as it has been found in a box of photo's belonging to my cousins mother. Unfortunately, her memory is fading bless her, and we are trying to do the Sherlock Holmes bit!

OH! one more thing....at the base of the small photo there appears to be some form of Insignia. in the shape of an Eagle / or phoenix.would you by chance know whether it is some form of cap badge?
