Good Morning Everyone......

Here is my latest aquistion a Tribute Scroll to the 2nd VSC Derbyshire......

Having problems with camera, will not connect to computer so will post pictures when I can......

Mike

To the OFFICERS, Non Commissioned OFFICERS and MEN of the Second Volunteer Battalion, The Sherwood Foresters Derbyshire Regiment who served in South Africa during the Boer War 1899, 1900, 1901 & 1902.

Your comrades desire that you should have some permanent record of the services rendered by you in the War in South Africa. When in the beginning of the year 1900 it became necessary to call upon the Auxiliary Forces to Volunteer for active service, the men of Derbyshire were among the first eagerly to respond and you were honoured by being selected from among the large numbers of your comrades anxious to serve their Country in the field. For many months you have been away from your homes and some of you have taken part in the heaviest of the fighting at the front, and had the honour of entering Pretoria with Lord Roberts. To others of you duties no less arduous but equally honourable have been assigned, all of which you have discharged with conspicuous success, and in such a manner as to reflect credit on yourselves and your Battalion. We rejoice and are thankful that there have been so few casualties in your ranks and we congratulate you upon your safe return. Should occasion again arise for calling on Derbyshire men to serve their Country in the field, we feel sure that the example which you have set will result in an equally eager and loyal response.

On behalf of the Battalion

Mike,

A superb addition to the collection, congrats.
It is so nice to see "proper" writing, I remember I used to write like this when at school (many moons ago)

Regards
Paul :)

Good Morning Brett and Paul.......

Brett.....

I hope to be doing the horizontal jiffy bag dance in about a week to 10 days.......
Purchased a group on line this week which is just about the largest purchase I have ever made but will fill a big hole......
More info later.....
At least it has given me a chance to catch up on some writing and junk reading, Clive Cussler and W.E.B. Griffin.......

Paul......

Yes I remember those days as well...... Having to write row after row of you A B C 's...... A friend told me that his company had a job fair here and over half of the hand written job applications could not be read......

Saying that though...... Can anyone make out the Colonel's signature........

Hello Mike, I have just been going through interests with regards to the Derbyshire Regiment on the forum here and I can help you out with regards to the signature you are trying to decipher. A few years ago I bought the 2VB's C.O'.s medals and other bits, I have also just had a look through the 2VB Gazettes for this period.
Your Officer signature is that of the Colonel of the 2VB at that time being Herbert Brooke Taylor. he has signed it Brooke Taylor
The family who originate from Bakewell in Derbyshire later changed their surname to BROOKE-TAYLOR, hope this helps. Mel.
