Good Evening Everyone......

I picked this up a while ago and just added it to my collection.....

I have since been advised that this may be a ribbon worn by fund raisers for the Welsh Hospital......

Does anyone have any other ideas ?????

Morning Mike

Another interesting piece you have there.

I've not seen or heard of anything like that connected to the Welsh Hospital. When I did my research into them I don't recall reading about public fund raising - but this was some years ago.

Some open questions:
What connects this piece to the war?
Apart from the Welch Rgt style badges why is this Welsh?
What colour are the ribbons? (If I squint hard enough I might see a daffodil)
What is the significance of the white cross on the red background?
What size is this?

Good Morning Meurig.......

I have the same questions as you do..... A friend who is from SA and Rhod. was visiting and we were talking about some odd ball items that we had in our collections and I mentioned this ribbon and that was the idea that came from him......

What connects this piece to the war? JUST A POSSIBILITY THAT'S ALL, ONE PERSONS OPINION.......
Apart from the Welch Rgt style badges why is this Welsh? AS YOU SAID THE WELSH BADGES.......
What colour are the ribbons? (If I squint hard enough I might see a daffodil) IT IS VERY FADED BUT THE TOP IS PALE YELLOW AND RED AND THE BOTTOM WHITE AND AS YOU CAN SEE FADED RED.....
What is the significance of the white cross on the red background? HAVE NO IDEA, REVERSE OF NORMAL RED CROSS
What size is this? ROSETTE IS NEARLY 3 INCHES X 8 3/4 INCHES IN LENGTH......

This is why I am asking the questions myself I would like to find out if it is or it is not connected......

Morning Mike

Just doing some-re-reading, of course funds were raised as the WH was a private concern. This ribbon suggests someone on a street corner rattling a tin, I am not sure that type of fundraising was done. The WH papers are in the National Library of Wales, I did read them one afternoon, but wasn't looking for an account book.

The white cross on red is the Danish flag - could there be a connection to the Danish Alexandria, Princess of Wales who lent her title to the Yorkshire Regiment? If it is the Yorkshire Regiment then the flower could be a (discoloured) white rose.

But that regiment did not have PoW feathers as a collar dog.

Keep digging!
