No image, but at least anyone interested will be able to keep an eye out for one. Garnffaith is a village in Gwent/Monmouthshire, near Abersychan, and between Pontypool and Blaenavon.
"A meeting was held at the Hanbury Assembly Rooms, Garndiffaith, on Saturday night, for the purpose of making a presentation of a silver watch, chain, and pendant to each of the six volunteers or reservists who have recently returned from South Africa.
The watches were supplied by Messrs Benson, London, at a cost of £4 10s each, and bore the inscription, "Presented to __________ by the inhabitants of Garndiffaith and the surrounding district for services rendered to Queen, King, and country in the South African War."
The following were the recipients: - Sergt. George Watkins, Abersychan; Privates Fred Leek, Garndiffaith; Philip Owen, Garndiffaith; and James Jones, Garndiffaith, South African Volunteers, all of B Company, 3rd V.B.S.W.B., and Corporal Arthur Davies, Talywain, Mounted Infantry, and Private John Williams, Garndiffaith, Mounted Infantry, reservists.
