Re RSM Boswick John George
I’ve just been speaking to a friend of mine who is a descendant of RSM Bostwick.
We were having a conversation about one of his relations who served on a major battleship and had a miraculous escape when it was sunk and out of the blue he then mentioned the Boer War and what he could recall about one of his family was that RSM Bostwick, whom he
knew quite well, served in South Africa and was involved with POW supervision at some stage.and is buried in Sandbach cemetery.
My friend is terminally ill and I would very much appreciate any information that there is available about his service and Medals
Thank you
Clive

Hi Clive,

I had a look but did'nt get any hits on that name, regiment or variants thereof.

Perhaps double-check the spelling and I can have another look for you.

Shaun

Clive - all I can do is add to Shaun's negative report and say I would put good money on there being no British soldier who served in the ABW with the surname Boswick and only a handful with the surname Bostwick, none of whom meet the other requirements. However, in my searches the surname Beswick kept coming up, in profusion.

Thus, I offer up 4109 Lance Corporal J Beswick of the 4th Battalion Cheshire Regiment who, according to their July 1901 medal roll on Ancestry was awarded a QSA with two clasps (CC, OFS). A transcription record on FMP claims he also received the KSA with both date clasps. His RSM status could have arisen from subsequent service?

Regards, David.

PS - at the second attempt on Ancestry I have found 4109 J Beswick on the November 1903 KSA medal roll of the 4th Battalion Cheshire Regiment by when his rank had already improved to Corporal and written in are his service dates in SA ?? March 1900 to 21 April 1902.

Regards, David.

Hi Shaun and David
Having just checked the spelling I see why you can’t find him
The correct spelling is Bostock ,apologies, look forward to seeing what this produces and the closest I can get to his date of death is mid 1950s
Thanks
Clive

Clive

Are the family sure that J G Bostock served in the Cheshire regiment? Also, are the initials correct? If possible could your friend provide a little more information? On my first trawl of military records there hasn't been a very productive outcome for a Bostock and the Cheshires.

Dave...

PS...Is there any connection to the Bostocks and the railways?
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave
