Just a last bit of information, according to Laurence Brown in his book British Historical Medals 1837-1901 volume 2 The Reign of Queen Victoria published in 1987, there was one silver example of the City Imperial Volunteers medallion which is according to the book rarity guide is four R's, the highest rarity.

I wonder what that would be if it ever came on the market. I would imagine that the Corporation of the City of London has it in their collection.

Best regards,

If I remember rightly in the article in the Graphic Magazine the silver medal was given to The Lord Mayor..... Would possibly be available for viewing at the Lord Mayors Museum......

Well, from what you say then its most probably in the City of London Guildhall Art Gallery and Museum.
I used to use the Guildhall library and reference room quite a bit, to conduct my research when I used to work in the city many years ago.

Have never seen it myself, but it's an excellent museum.

As Victor Meldrew would say from the BBC comedy "One Foot in the Grave" "I don't believe it" and like the proverbial
London bus, you don't get one but three come along at once.
well I have just come off the South African website bid or buy and they have 3 City imperial Volunteers medallions for sale. (Am not sure if 3rd one is a duplicate of the 2nd one)

It seems that there are still examples out there and bearing in mind how many were issued, after all this long time, that some have survived and they can be still found.

I have attached the link's if anyone's interested

You will notice though that all three are from the same seller.....

And even though it is the original case it's not in very good condition....
