I have just purchased a boer penknife and this tin came with it ? I am trying to find out what it is related to so any suggestions would be much appreciated.....

It has NMR soldered on it with a crown above it on the bottom left...
On the top right it has a lady with glasses and short hair facing a man with receding hair and a mustache...
Any suggestions how to post a picture ?

Hi Andrew

It is WWII vintage : a New year 1945 Gift Tin from FM Jan Smuts and his wife Tant Issie to SA soldiers.
The V, Springbok, lettering and other coloured finish was stripped and an old Natal Mtd Rifles badge soldered on. Inside the lid was a message from the Smuts's : wasthat also removed?

Yes, looks like there is nothing on the inside of the tin apart from a faint etching from someone in the metal which looks like..... B FELD
