Some might recall me posting a very blurred photo recently of a badge surrounded by a red rosette which, the consensus of opinion confirmed as being a Sharp Shooters badge.

I have now received the medals and trimmings from the UK and post a better image of the badge and accoutrements.

Comments welcome!

Hello Rory,
How many pieces is the badge actually made from?
Sadly, they have been done to death, originals are actually quite rare, of course, a real one is worth rather more than the medals you show.

I've left them in my office Frank and will try and get a snap of the rear tomorrow which should help in answering your question.

From memory there is a brass pin going through lugs on the reverse which, I suppose keeps the brass part affixed to the rosette.

Hi Frank

Herewith photos of the rear and an attempt to see "inside"

The black portion seems to have been stitched over the brass lugs onto the maroon material and then the lugs secured by the pin through the aattendant holes that were made.

Is it the real deal or not? I don't know but the entire lot came from the great grandson who was given the box of goodies by his dad.

Regards

Rory

Hello Rory,
Well I have to say it looks okay to me, when I first saw it, in the other post, it looked bronze and I just thought no.
The actual badges were made in three pieces from a rather pale coloured gold brass, many officers wore them without the IY rosette.
They are really rather rare, if the piece is attached by cotton thread to rosette, then I'd just not bother removing it.
