Hi there,
I found a photo in the loft.
A uniform Expert has identified the soldier as a Yeoman (Possibly City of London or Imperial Yeoman). He is wearing two medals, The queens and Kings South Africa War medal.
He is also wearing a whistle and has the insignia 'P C' on his shoulders. The cap badge appears to be that of the Norfolk yeomanry or similar.
Can you Identify the uniform, the unit and a likely date.

(you can wear your deer stalker hat if you like.)

thanks

geordie

Hello and Welcome Geordie.....

Looks like the uniform of the Legion of Frontiersmen.....

The medals I am sorry to say do not look like the Kings or Queens SA medals at least to me......

Geordie
I agree with Mike about the ribbons not being the QSA and KSA. In earlier times, commercial photographers commonly "touched up" portraits - and medal ribbons did not escape the process! A guess would be that the ribbons are those of the British 1914-1918 War medal and Victory medal; however, the tunic appears to be from an earlier period than WW1.
Do you know the identity of the man in the portrait?
Regards
IL.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I have no Idea who the person is. The photograph must have been passed down the family and put into the loft for storage. I have enquired with a living aunt, who said it may be a person who emigrated to canada. ?
Its certainly a conundrum . With such a clearly defined uniform in the photo, it seems to be a mix and match.

I agree with Mike - a google of Legion of Frontiersman images shows shoulder chains and the distinctive hat. I would venture the combination of those two is unique to the Frontiersmen.

The ribbons look like long service & merit medals also see on images.

Certainly not UK yeomanry.
