hello all,

Might anyone know the significance of a large blue diamond (cloth flash) stitched to the upturned side of a slouch brim? There is also a bit of blue banding in the puggaree. Ideas? :)

Have you got a picture of it ? Also how is the brim of the slouch hat clipped up to the crown ... with a presstud or a hook and eye ?

Have a look at theses threads on the Victorian War Forum, the flash may be illustrated:

thanks for the links... will have a peek at those links. The brim *appears* to be held up by a hook stitched in place. The blue diamond and the blue banding around the puggaree are of the same type of material. The sweatband is present, but too salty for a maker's marking to be visible. See below...

I would have to say, based on the photographs, that particular hat is certainly not Anglo Boer War, is there any reason why you thought it was?

Hello Mark.....

I have to agree with Frank, I think that this is WW2 or later.....

I used to have a chart with a large number of flashes but I will be damned if I can find it right now.....
