Am researching the South Australian 4th Imperial Bushman's contingent and have come across a chevron that no body currently can explain.
It is 2 stripes, but are separated with a distinct gap. The photo has one, two and three stripers, as well as the two stripes with a gap. There is no other insignia on the sleeves, and the uniform is a standard NCO dress code.
Photos attached.

OK to my old eyes they all look like sets of 3 stripes......

I think that it is just the angle and shadow of the photo......

Maybe I am wrong......

Hi Mike. I agree that an optical illusion makes it difficult, but a very close examination will reveal no stitching on the ends of the middle stripe. Sergeants stripes in the same photo reveal two particular things not seen on the two striper with a gap. The end stitching and the raised rounded part of each stripe down the long sides adding a slight shadow and contrast, enough to be obvious, where as the two stripe with a gap, it dos not exist..
Cheers
Wayne
