What a great badge! Been after one for years. Hopefully, over Christmas I will be able to do a post on Sgt. "Daddy" Dale of Lumsdens.
Regards
IL.

Hi Linneyl,

Thank you. And yes please do a show and tell, I for one would find it very interesting.

I couldn't resist a little photo editing, so overlaid a pic of my new badge on a close-up of Captain Holmes with his Lee-Speed rifle.

Cheerio,

Roy

Collecting/wanted ABW insignia if anyone has some spares?

Here is a copy of a photograph I have of the Lumsden Horse soldiers preparing to leave for South Africa. Its amazing quality and nice to see all the soldiers named as well - my Great Uncle is George Elliot Llewhellin down on the right. If anyone has any further information or photos regarding him I would be very interested.

He was born 19th Aug 1874 in India, although returned to England and educated at Harrow in 1888 before going to Cambridge in 1893. He left England in 1896 to work on an Indigo plantation and joined the Behar Light Horse. In 1900 he joined the Lumsden as a Sergeant in A Company, No 2 section and was mentioned in despatches. He also served in WW1 attached to the 15th Lancers and 33rd Light Cavalry. He returned to India and the BLH, where in 1919 he was put in command of the unit as Lieutenant Colonel. In 1920 he was also confirmed as being the A.D.C to the Viceroy.

Many thanks

Nick

Pearse’s 1903 book on Lumsden’s Horse might be useful. It is available on this site.
