Welcome to the forum. I note that the badge attached to the bugle is that of the "Australasian Squadron" of the King's Colonials. Not a unit that served in South Africa during 1899-1902.

To expand my earlier answer a little, King Edward's Horse/Kings Colonials were a Yeomanry Regiment raised in the UK during the latter stage of the ABW for what would be termed as Home Defence. There were four Squadrons (A = British Asian, B = British American (Canadian). C= Australasian (Aust and NZ) and D = British South African). Later, a fifth Squadron was added for New Zealand (who apparently resented being lumped in with their neighbours!). I could be corrected; however, the various badges appear to be relatively common. We sometimes see the "Australasian" badges here in OZ; where they are sometimes referred to as Boer War badges. They are, in a way, I suppose.

IL.

Thank you for the information. Not the first time an auction house got it half right. My question is "who and why a reproduction?
