Hi Gent,s

So here is my latest addition. I'm not 100 per cent sure on its identification, so any thoughts as always would be greatly appreciated.

I have discounted Lumsden's Horse as the design is wrong. However the two (that I know of) that may still be in the running are Loch's Horse or Loxton's Horse, neither of which I know a great deal about.

Very much looking forward to any thoughts you may have?

Cheerio,

Roy

I don't have Owen, unfortunately - so can't check that. There has been some discussion about Loxton's Horse on this site; a very small unit. Loch's Horse was raised in 2/1900 and - according to Stirling - had a strength of about 220. So, I suppose the balance of probabilities makes Loch's Horse my guess.

IL.

Hi Linneyl,

Thank you for that. I did check in my copy of Owen but couldn't see anything but it wouldn't be the first time I missed a badge.

I was leaning toward Loch's Horse myself but hopefully there will be a few more thoughts.

Cheerio,

Roy

I wonder if the orange cloth backing is contemporary, and therefore a clue to the identity of the regiment, or is it simply an embellishment added later by a collector?

Brett

Hi Gents,

Adrian; Thanks for sharing these, lovely to see and always good to see other examples for comparison.

Brett; That had crossed my mind too and I don't really know. The cloth backing I can tell you is more red than orange, just the way it came out in the photo. It also is more grubby than it looks in the photo. It 'appears' to be quite old and has certainly been with the badge a long time - how long? I guess we will never know. But as long as there is a slim chance it's original, I will keep them together.

Some more pics for additional interest.

Cheerio,

Roy
