I'm not 100% certain, but from this uniform, particularly the collar , I think you are right. I'm sure that someone here can confirm.

Hello Cathy
Welcome to the forum.
Is it possible that you can supply your G Grandfather's name and where he was born?
The more clues you can share, may help answer your question

Hi, I have a photo of my great grandfather in what looks like a boer war uniform. He was a coal miner an we not aware of any service history. Could it be a prop in a photography setting? His name was John Spencer b1875 from Brimington, Chesterfield Derbyshire. Can anyone help with this.

Hi Spener
I think your G Grandfather did serve in the military.
I found a John Spencer regimental number 3697 who served for 3 years and 155 days in the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters. I don't think he took part in the Boer War. I will dig deeper when I can, but if it is your G Grandfather he joined up in 1892 at Colchester and served in East India. He was discharged due to deafness. His occupation was a collier, his father was also called John. If this is your G Grandfather I will upload his papers for you to check out. Maybe tomorrow as I'm on a plane for most of the day:)

Dave......

Ps....If I have the right man? J Spencer was discharged on the 29th of November 1895
He married Emma Fearn on the 13th January 1896. Does that fit in with the image you posted? Was your G Grandmother called Emma?
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave
