I have two photos of my GF taken in India after he left SA with 2KSLI in 1903. One of them is in a khaki uniform that I am told was his SA uniform. The second appears to be a dress tunic. My questions are:
Would the khaki uniform have been used in both SA and India?
Was the tunic red?
If anyone has colored drawings of the two uniforms or links to such they would much appreciated

Yes, the foreign service uniform was the same for India and South Africa.
The home service uniform was a red tunic with navy blue facings. See www.military-art.com/mall/more.php?ProdID=20864 for examples. In this image www.lightinfantry.org.uk/images/ksliuniforms_500.jpg the man 2nd from right is 1880s.
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.
