Hello All,

Here’s an interesting QVC Black Watch ORs badge submitted for input. A very long time ago, numerals were struck on the reverse of the cross, one on each arm. I assume this to represent a service number. The numbers are 6843. I’d be very interested in everyone’s opinion on the correct sequence. Numbers are arranged as indicated.

sorry guys… due to the sites file size limitation I’m unable to attach a pic…

Read clockwise, starting at the arm of the cross at 11 o’clock, it reads “6843”. I’m wondering if this might coincide with the BW service #s of the ABW period?

Open your image in almost any photo programme like Preview and you'll see Tools > Adjust size
Make your picture <1500 pixels on the long edge and save as a JPG
This will usually bring the picture to <500 Kb
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

For your records :-
Black Watch regimental numbers and dates.

6843 would fall between 1897 & 1898
Which would coincide for service during the Anglo Boer War conflict.
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave

Thanks for the list of possibilities! 6843 (beginning clockwise from top left) seems to be the most intuitive reading, and it appears to be the consensus opinion. I’ll now attempt to track down our 6843 man…
