I picked this up a while back, but have no idea what it would have been attached to. It is made of thin gauge sheet-brass, 45 mm in diameter, and with die-stamped C.I.V. insignia. There are traces of gilding to the obverse.

The reverse has been abraded, indicating that it was intended to be soldered to a metal surface.

I imagine it would have adorned an item of service equipment, acting as regimental ID.

Has anyone seen anything similar to this on other regimental pieces?

The photograph below includes a C.I.V. tunic button for scale.

Could it be an ID plate for the side of a rifle stock????? I have seen a couple with numbers and unit ID before.......
