Good morning everyone,

Please assist me. I have searched and searched but I con not find what I am looking for. I have a buckle with the Queens crown on and the letters V R on either side of the crown and at the bottom of the crown the soldiers regimental number. The number is C794.

Can anyone assist with more information please.

My belief is that these were in fact seals for stores rather than saddle or harness markers. The numbers are probably batch or consignment numbers, and are not soldiers' numbers. They turn up quite frequently on sites of British encampments in South Africa.
