Dave F -I resorted to asking my daughter to post for me,so the info should be visible now.
It should be patently obvious to any observer of this post that I am profoundly technophobic, so please forgive my faffing about.
Thank you Dave F for your patience and help. Am I correct in thinking that his medals were unclaimed??

I intended to add the information re my man in my first post, but what I'm trying to discover is what uniform insignia, badges, cloth patches etc would apply to his service in order to create a display to go alongside his newly issued WW1 medals, which I'm in the process of mounting. All offers of help is welcomed and appreciated.

From all of that, I would suggest you obtain a replica Queen's South Africa medal with clasps "Cape Colony", "Orange Free State", "Transvaal", "South africa 1901" and "South Africe 1902" to add to your display.
Regarding the doings of the 17th M.I. Bn, I see from the index volume (7) of the Times History of the war in SA that that BN operated in the NW OFS and in the Western Transvaal. Should you so wish, you or your daughter could look up Volume 5 of the Times History from the main menu on this site consult pages 304 and 513 for some idea of what they did.
I would imagine that a LNLanc regimental badge from the ABW period would also fit in nicely; also a 17M.I. brass title similarly.
Regards
IL.
