Just been reading an interesting article in the annual Journal of the HBSA, on the Martin's bandolier, which would comfortable hold Mauser clips/chargers. One comment at the surrender at Paarderberg: "...The prisoners were ordered to stack their arms and ammunition in heaps. I noticed that the bandoliers were made up in pockets each containing five cartridges, a thing that we had never seen before as in those days we charged our magazines one at a time....". This highlights the charger loading Mauser compared with the single round loading the the magazine Lee-Metford or Lee-Enfield. These bandoliers appear in many photographs of Boer commandos and it cause me to wonder if they were official issue with the Mauser? Certainly other DIY type bandoliers have been noted.

they were indeed useful - and quite interesting, will lead me astray. V many thanks.

Also found a couple of decent colour illustrations in "The Anglo Boer War in 100 Objects" from the War Museum of the Boer Republics: all supported within your identified articles.

thank you
