Mike,
When you say the bars are incorrect are you saying they are tailors copies?

Hi Frank.....

No the bars are correct but he is not entitled to them all.....

I have not researched him but I do not think that he can have both the Cape Colony and Natal clasps.....

Mike,
Okay, so assume he joined later on, I always think of the SALH as part of Col, the Earl of Dundanald's, mounted brigade with a certain Lieutenant Churchill riding up Spion Kop :woohoo: when everyone else was coming down!

Thanks for starting this thread and showing a very unusual slouch hat badge.

I do not have photos of the SALH items in my collection but I will rectify this during the next day or two. In the meantime, I am showing the medals of a Canadian, William Joseph Cox, who served in the SALH during the Boer War. The clasps on his QSA are those of men who were in Dundonald's Mounted Brigade during the Relief of Ladysmith.

Regards
Brett

Hi Brett,
Wonderful QSA, is his Star, Canadian or British, or is it for German South West Africa?

Cox settled in South Africa after the Boer War and served in the South African army during World War I (GSWA, GEA & Nyasaland). There is no record of him being awarded the War and Victory Medals, although he was clearly entitled to both. He twice had disciplinary problems during the war, so perhaps the medals were withheld. I am loath to post his summary biography on this forum, because it is fairly lengthy and only small part deals with the Boer War.

Regards
Brett

PS I plan to photograph the SALH badges this afternoon.
