Sorry Frank, are you saying all the British made were die struck or all the NMR/BMR including the locally made ones?

regards, Iain

Hello Iain,
No, I am not, South African made Boer War examples do get very interesting, they were cast and indeed cut/incised/stamped/struck etc.
All depended on the particular maker, Messr's Wade's in Pietermaritzburg made very fine examples.
Those made here, before the Boer War, for the Natal Volunteers, tended to be struck from a die, though, officer's badges in silver, like the Natal Carbineers for example, were cast.
Kind regards Frank

Hi Frank,
I was particularly interested as I also have KC brass NMR and it is cast.
It seems that a lot of SA badges were made in Britain but in times of crisis, then they are locally made and usually cast. During WWII, there were even lead SA badges made locally.

Kind regards, Iain

Hi Iain,
Many were made in Copper and Lead during the Boer War too!
Regards Frank

Frank

The badge below from my collection is identified as a pouch badge. it measures 65mm across and 60mm from top to bottom. It has three screws for mounting. Is it correctly identified?

Regards
Brett

Hello Brett,
I think that normally these type of badges with screw posts are pouch badges but I have seen Umvoti MR with such posts and a slouch hat ring!
Kind regards Frank
