Dudley

You have a superb collection of Boer War badges. Thank you for sharing it with us. The heavy brass NMR title is one that has so far eluded me.

Regards
Brett

Gentlemen,
During the Anglo Boer War the Natal Mounted Rifles normally wore their existing slouch hat badges, shown below, in keeping with their counterparts in the Natal Volunteers, these were made in Great Britain, however, two jewellers, one in Durban and another in Pietermaritzburg, also made badges for them.

Hi Frank,

very nice, thanks for sharing; do you think you can show the reverse. I'm interested to see if its cast and does it have a maker's mark on it?

regards, Iain

Hello Iain,
No, the ones made here in Great Britain, were die-stuck like the Carbineers/Border MR and all the other period slouch hat badges of the Natal Volunteers, either with two or three copper lugs and a small ring to the back of the crown for the larger slouch hat ring, never seen any with any marks.
