Gentlemen,
I am really not one for museums, often I am disapointed when I visit them, there was a memorable visit that I was really looking forward to about a decade ago, to a well known museum here, which because of the unit in question, has only circa 20th century exhibits on display, as members of this forum will know, I like uniforms and badges.
So you might well imagine my thoughts after a walk around this place to find many things on display were not infact original to the period in question, when certain items were actually worn!
I recently went to a popular Victorian resort in Wales to collect my mother from the hotel where she had been staying, whilst there, I noticed the place had a small museum dedicated to the history of the town, so with little better to do, I paid the small fee to gain access.
Not expecting to see anything related to the Anglo Boer War, I was rather surprised to see one of best examples of a British Army helmet and cover that I've ever seen, better, than the example in my own collection too!
It was worn by a Private in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and also on display was his chocolate tin and a handful of 37mm Pom Pom cases that this fellow had brought back.
This latter, though not particularly scarce, was very nice to see, as examples with 19th century/Boer War period headstamps are not easy to find.
