We are trying to find out who this soldier is. His photo was included in a box of mementoes brought to Canada by my great grandmother in 1925. The WWI forum believes his uniform predates WWI.

The plain tunic with standup collar and brass buttons, and no braid on the sleeve, seems to be more likely to be 1890s or so.

I've found an F Reynolds, 2nd West Surrey Regiment, who was wounded 5 Feb 1900 and 11 Jun 1900 in the Boer War. He would have been my ggf's uncle.

Any help?

Judy

Hello

The uniform is definitely late Victorian.

The badge on the collar certainly looks like the Paschal lamb of the West Surreys.

Check on FindmyPast and Ancestry for service papers to see if the F Reynolds is your ggf's uncle.
