Silver glengarry badge worn by Pipe Sgt Thomas Clark 1st Bn Black Watch.
Appointed Sgt-Piper February 1901, made by William Dowler & Son Birmingham 1902.

Fabulous badge Ron. Looks like it has been lovingly cared for over the years.

Thank you showing a great badge. The evidence for polishing enhances it and it is so much more appealing than those badges which are pristine and probably taken from stores and never worn.

Thats a fine lump of silver you have there, I had no idea that Dowler's actually made officers glengarry badges for this regiment, which cycle of hallmarks did they use on the reverse?

Hi, Frank the makers mark on the front just to the left of St.Andrews right hand .In a cartouche reads vertically W D & S, the Stirling mark and date letter below St. Andrews feet the anchor mark either miss truck or missing?
I have other pieces of militaria worn by P.M. Clark including a very fine plaid brooch, will post soon.

Hello Roy,
The marks are a little indistinct, however, I would suggest that they may well actually be twenty second cycle London marks for 1898-1899 because of the shape of the Lion Passant when compared with the date letter, it has a Victorian crown too, the sixth cycle of Birmingham marks, with that letter would be 1903-1904.
What does the reverse look like, is it cast or struck, not that any of this really matters, it is a superb piece of silver.
