Greetings everyone,
I am a new member who would like to seek assistance in obtaining some infromation, as well as where I can get replacement ribbons for three Anglo Boer War Medals (QSA, KSA & DCM) that were issued to Sergeant William Tierney, NCO with Thorneycroft's Mounted Infantry, South Africa Operations.
The following is an outline of the medals:
The Medals in silver with clasps mounted, fixed to a NINNES HYTHE retainer, appear to have been worn extensively by Sgt. Tierney. All three ribbons have hand stitches from wearing out on the retainers edge.
All three Medals have the same plain block capitol inscription:
7070 SERGT W. TIERNEY, THORNEYCROFT'S M. I. - *1
* #7070 is noted on each of the Medals. Thorneycroft's Mounted Infantry Records Page #86, has #7079 noted for Sgt. Tierney.
Shouldn't these two number match?
KSA - Kings South Africa Medal
South Africa 1902
South Africa 1901
QSA - Queens South Africa Medal with ghost dates on the reverse
Tugela Heights - for operations between 14th & 27th Feb. 1900 - *2
Orange River Colony - issued ?
(Orange Free State - 28 Feb. 1900 - 15 July 1901)
Cape Colony - issued from 11 Oct. 1899 - 15 July 1901
** - Army Order #94 of 1901, paragraph #17 notes Orange Free State does not have Orange River Colony listed for commendation?
What Operation was the Orange River Colony clasp issued for?
DCM - Distinguished Conduct Medal - With out date
*** - The DCM listing on your website of known DCM Recipients, does not show Sgt. William Tierney being awarded the DCM.
Can this be updated to include Sgt. Tierney?
Thorneycroft's Mounted Infantry Records:
Tierney William 7079 Sergeant Discharged 18 March 1902 at own request
Any help regarding the above will be most appreciated. Thank you to all that take the time to read and respond to my inquiry.
Truly,
D. Price
