QSA clasps Cape Colony ,Orange Free State 1901 awarded to7546 Pte Thomas Ferguson 1st Vol Coy Royal Highlanders ,with Police South Africa Long Service Medal awarded to 2649 (F) 2/C Sergeant T Ferguson. Prior to his departure for South Africa Ferguson was made a Freeman of the city of Dundee and was presented with the City of Dundee Tribute Medal. .He was discharged in South Africa at the end of his military service and joined the Police .Copies of his poilice record obtained from a South Africa historian confirm this.

Nemesis

Thank you for showing an interesting combination of medals. Many British servicemen stayed on, or returned to South Africa after the Boer War, and some ended up in the post-1913 South African Police, usually by way of the Natal and Cape Police, and the South African Constabulary.

This post made me wonder just how many such pairings have been shown on this forum, so I scoured the thread 'Unusual medal combinations that include the QSA', which is, by the way, always a pleasure for idle people like me. The only similar pair I noticed was an ABO/SAP Good Service combination to R J Crowther that was posted by Munroe.

So, the Black Watch/SAP pair may well be much more unusual than I thought.

Regards
Brett
