KSA's to the Navy are scarce because the Naval Brigades had returned to their ships in 1901 and the medal was not awarded if men did not serve ashore. Of the 31 KSAs to the Navy, 20 were awarded to Royal Navy Personnel and 11 to the Royal Marines.

Robert Henry Edge was born at Portsea, Hampshire on 8 January 1857, joined the Royal Navy on 10 May 1875 as a Writer 3rd Class and was pensioned on 29 May 1903. After leaving the navy he was appointed as Pensioner Writer 1st Class to the Office of the Admiral Superintendant of Contract Built Ships, Tyne and Thames District. Bullock Militaria May 09 £3,450.

QSA (1) Nat, KSA (2) (Art Engineer RN), 14-15 Star (Ch Art Eng RN), BWM, VM (Eng Lt RN). During the Great War Hebbes served in HMS Dreadnought 1914-15, HMS Halcon 1915-18, and HMS Rameses 1918-19. Whilst in Halcyon, a torpedo Gunboat based at Lowestoft, he will have participated in the sinking of UB27 which resulted in the award of the DSO to Lt. Cdr. Bannerman. DNW Apr 94 £760

In the footnote to this lot, DNW state:

Only 31 K.S.A.'s to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, this issue being unique to a naval recipient from H.M.S. Doris.

However, looking at the list above, there are many KSAs to HMS Doris.

This trio went under the hammer today and realised £4,400.
